| Objective To assess the effectiveness and outcomes of the surgery methods for the delayed traumatic medial canthal deformity. This study introduces an effective method to treat the traumatic medial telecanthal deformity by titanium microscrew and microplate, which is timesaving and easy to operate.
Methods This is a retrospective, clinical case series of 38 patients (38 eyes) who sustained the meidal canthal deformity after kinds of truama. 31 of them were corrected just by microscrews, 4 by additional titanium microplates because of the lack of stable bone, and the other 3 recurrent cases by autologous fascia lata graft combined with the methods mentioned above.
Results All the 38 cases had significant improved appearances immediately after operation. During 9～18 months follow-up, stable effect was achieved in 34 cases（84.2%）. The displacement distance of the affected medical canthus was less than or equal to 2mm in 30 cases, about 3mm in 4 cases. Recurrence of the deformity occurred in 4 cases about 3 months after the surgery, and 3 of them were re-corrected satisfactorily with the final displacement distance less than 4mm.
Conclusion According to different condition, suitable screw-and-plate fixation could achieve satisfied results. This approach was proven effective in restoring the normal facial appearance. |
