This CD-ROM and the information it contains is provided to you under the terms of a software and information license which puts various restrictions on what you can and cannot do with the CD-ROM and the information it contains. Select "Disclaimers and Copyrights" from the "About the CD-ROM Edition" on the Main Menu to review the Software and Information License.

Generally speaking, the License provides that you have the right to use the information and software provided on the CD-ROM for legitimate purposes, but that the information and software is owned by the organizations that developed the information and software. The following are some examples of things that are allowed or prohibited under the license agreement.

Examples of Things Allowed Under the License Agreement

  • Unlimited retrieval and printing of text and images by a single user for research or other personal uses.
  • Clipping sections of text for incorporation in a document or report being prepared for private use, provided that appropriate attribution is provided.
  • Use in educational setting for providing images or text as a part of a lecture.
  • Installation and use on a local area network operated by a legitimate owner of a copy of the CD-ROM, as long as the number of simultaneous users does not exceed the number of copies of the CD-ROM purchased.

Examples of Things Prohibited Under the License Agreement

  • Creating copies, electronic or other, of text or images drawn from this CD-ROM for distribution to another individual, whether given for free or sold. Should your CD-ROM be damaged, contact the publisher for a replacement.
  • Making the CD-ROM, or information drawn from the CD-ROM, available on any computer bulletin board or other network for the purpose of making it available for use by any person other than the legitimate owner of the copy of the CD-ROM.
  • Using information drawn from the CD-ROM without attribution.
  • Copying the image or text retrieval software for any use other than displaying the information contained on this CD-ROM.
  • Disassembling, or otherwise altering, the executable code of the image or text retrieval software.
