Purpose :
To describe the characteristic and the management of methanol toxic optic neuropathy in Cicendo Eye Hospital Indonesia

Method :
A retrospective descriptive study. Data from all medical records of methanol optic neuropathy patient from January 2007-December 2008 were collected and analyzed.

Result :
There were 36 patients (72 eyes) who diagnosed as methanol optic neuropathy. All of the patients were male in their second to third decade of life. Most patients seek medical help more than 24 hours after drinking. The visual acuity of the patients at presentation was no light perception in majority. Due to the delayed of seeking medical help of most patients, the management had some limitations so most therapy was given only roborantia. The improvement of these patients was not seen. Informed consent was given and consulted to the low vision division.

Conclusion :
Drinking methanol causes effect similar to common alcohol with the addition of pronounced vision problems. Most patients seek treatment more than 24 hours after systemic symptoms were resolved. It leads to limitation of the treatment and blindness is the final result of this circumstance.
